How to Make The Central Box
Step 1: Cut and score the base
To form the base structure of your gift box, cut a piece of white card to 12” x 10”.
Using your scoreboard, score:
On the 12” side at 3 ¾” and 8 ¼”
On the 10” side at 3 ¾” and 6 ¼”
Step 2: Create the glue tabs
On the top and bottom sections, score only the left and right thirds at 3 ¼” and 6 ¾”
These will create the tabs used to assemble your box.
Step 3: Decorate the inside
While your card is still flat, decorate the inside panels.
Cut patterned paper to:
1 piece: 2 ¼” x 4 ¼”
2 pieces: 2 ¼” x 3 ½”
2 pieces: 3 ½” x 4 ¼”
Adhere these into place using tacky glue. This adds a lovely surprise detail when the box is opened.
Step 4: Add side panels
Cut two pieces of Ivory card to 2 ½” x 3 ¾” and adhere them to the tall, narrow side panels.
Step 5: Assemble the box
Glue the tabs and assemble your box, making sure the tabs sit on the outside — these will be hidden by your house panels later.
How to Decorate Your House
Step 6: Create the house panels
Cut two house shapes from your Ivory cardstock. Score across each piece where the roof meets the house front, so the roof can fold neatly.
Step 7: Die-cut and decorate
Use the Seasonal House Dies to add windows, doors, and decorative details. Add patterned paper behind windows for cosy curtains and use coloured cardstock scraps for doors and accents. You can also stamp or ink details using your black inkpad and draw in finishing touches like doorknobs with a black pen
For extra dimension, attach elements such as the dormer window using 3D foam pads.
Step 8: Attach to the box
Glue your finished house panels onto the front and back of the box, covering the construction tabs.
Create The Opening Roof
Step 9: Make the fastening strip
Cut a strip of card to 1” x 3 ¾” and score down the centre lengthways and fold to create a mountain fold. Attach this to the back roof panel.
Step 10: Add the closure
Apply your hook & loop fastening along the strip.
Place the corresponding pieces on top (sticky side up), then gently close the front roof panel to line everything up perfectly. Press down firmly to secure.
To Finish
Fill your gift box with tissue paper, then add your gift. This box is perfect for candles, chocolates, and small homeware treats.
This is such a thoughtful way to celebrate a new home — a handmade piece that feels personal, decorative, and full of meaning.
