What is Build-a-Block?
As the name suggests, the Build-a-Block system forms the building blocks for so many patchwork and quilting projects. Each quilt or patchwork pattern is made up of a series of blocks. And inside each block is a unique design made up of different shapes. With the Gemini Build-a-Block system, you have all the tools you need to design, cut and create your own beautiful block designs in a range of sizes.
How does it work?
With step-by-step instructions and a guide to creating so many different designs, the Gemini Build-a-Block system is for all abilities. The system uses Multi Media dies, which allow you to cut out all of your pattern shapes with precision and ease. Each die shape comes in a range of sizes, so you can mix and match sizes and shapes to create your own perfect design. Or follow the included block guide to build a range of classic patchwork and quilting pattern blocks. The Multi Media dies feature a 1.5mm-thick cutting blade. This means you can cut multiple layers of fabric, including up to 6 layers of 100% cotton materials. Use the dies with your chosen fabric and a Gemini die-cutting machine to cut out Build-a-Block shapes with accuracy. Faster, safer and more precise than using a rotary cutter! And each die also features built-in seam allowance, taking all of the hardwork out of building your block design!
How to use Build-a-Block system:
Simply follow three easy steps to create a beautiful Build-a-Block pattern:
- Choose the shape and sizes of your Multi Media dies to create a Build-a-Block pattern
- Use with your chosen fabric and a Gemini die-cutting machine to cut out each shape
- Follow the step-by-step instructions to stitch your design together
Getting started
If you’re new to the world of Build-a-Block, we recommend starting with the original Gemini Build-a-Block set.
This includes nested dies in square, half-square, triangle and quarter square triangle shape, so you can create 3”, 4” , 6”, 8”, 9” and 12” pattern blocks. Clear instructions and a block guide will take you through the process of creating 20 beautiful patchwork and quilting patterns.
Once you’ve mastered the Build-a-Block system you can expand your creativity and stitch so many different quilt patterns and designs using a wide variety of add-on kits!
