Crafter’s Companion US design team member Lori created this stunning Lantern Box, and we thought you might like to make one too! We’re sharing her direction below (please note, all measurements are in US-format, but you could adapt the box to be larger by adjusting the size).
You’ll need these supplies:
Directions:
Step 1: Cut cardstock down to 8 ½” x 11″.
Step 2: Using the Ultimate Pro score your card stock 2.5” / 5 line over from the Box Lid side
Step 3: Score at the 10” mark / 2 line over on the box – bottom side
Step 4: Score at the 7.5” measurement, flipping over the piece then it will be the last score line on the box lid side
Step 5: Move over as shown and do another score for at the 5” which will then be the 5 line over again on the box lid side.
Step 6: Turn the paper and score at 2.5” across the bottom, this will be the fifth line over on the box lid side
Step 7: Cut slits from the bottom as shown only to the solid score mark.
Step 8: Use the die from the Crafter’s Inspiration magazine issue 8 and line up along the side of the lantern. Be sure to secure the die with a little light tape so it won’t move while it’s cutting.
Step 9: Flip the die and cut again as shown.
Step 10 : Leave the next panel solid, but repeat the steps above on the fourth panel as shown.
Step 11: Using a strong glue tape the edges together to form the lantern box.
Step 12: Fold over all the flaps on the bottom and glue down.
Step 13: This is how your lantern will look at this point.
Step 14: Cut two sheets of vellum and glue inside the die cut panels. This will let the light give off a soft glow and also help hide the lights that will be inside.
Step 15: Cut out two frame panel as shown
Step 16 : Cut out two leaves and color with peeled paint distress ink, and 10 flowers. Color the flowers with the Spectrum Noir Sparkle pen.
Step 17: Arrange the flower sprigs as shown. You can top off the centers of the flowers with mini pearls or whatever you prefer.
Step 18: Attach the flower frames with foam tape as shown.
Step 19: Wrap the plain sides of the lantern with ribbon but don’t tie a bow on the top just yet.
Step 20: Insert battery operated lights in the centre of your lantern and then tie a bow on the top to finish off the project.
