Tutorial: Altered Composition Book

Gini has a fabulous tutorial for you! She shows you how you can have lots of messy fun altering a notebook! (please note: Gini has used some stamps only available in the US, but we’ve shared some suggestions for replacements in the supply list below!).

Crafter’s Companion Supplies:

Other Supplies: Composition Book, Mists, Acrylic paints, gesso; Staz-on Ink

Directions:

Step 1:Paint composition book with gesso, then paint a neutral background with acrylic paints.

Step 2: Stamp background stamp randomly, (we have suggested an alternate above) with Staz-On Ink.

Step 3: Use portions of the grunge tree stencil (we have suggested an alternate above) to add texture to the background using modelling paste.

misted

Step 4: Mist over areas of the book with complimentary colours.

Step 5: Die cut ferns from thin cardstock and adhere to the background.

Step 6: Colour the ferns quickly with Spectrum Aqua markers.

Step 7: Blend the colours with water and a brush.

Blotting

Step 8: Blot the ferns to remove excess water. This will also remove some of the misted colour and will reveal the original acrylic paint background.

Step 9: Die cut multiple identical flowers. Glue the layers together to create faux chipboard.

Step 10: Colour the flower with the Spectrum Aqua pens and blend with a waterbrush. Glue to the cover.

Step 11: Spread thick acrylic paint to working mat, and use to “ink” a background flower stamp. Stamp the image randomly over the cover.
