FOILPRESS and Spectrum Noir Sparkle Liquid Inks – butterfly birthday card

Crafter's Companion – 12/04/19

If you’re looking to add some glitz and glamour to your card projects, this step-by-step is for you. Featuring our Gemini FOILPRESS and the Spectrum Noir Sparkle Liquid Inks, this card idea is full to the brim with glittering goodness! It’s sure to completely steal the limelight!

This cardmaking project is more on the advanced side, but it’s a project that will always be completely unique, thanks to the technique used on the background. It’s virtually impossible to create the same look with your inks twice, so if you’re looking to challenge yourself, but make exquisitely individual cards, try this out!

You will need:

Step 1

Trim three pieces of watercolour cardstock to 6″ x 6″.

Step 2

On a glass or plastic mat, lay out your card. Using a wet paintbrush, coat two pieces of the card in your chosen colours. Try blending them together to create an incredible watercolour effect. On the remaining piece of card, paint your colours on just around the edge (create a 2″ thick border of colour).

Step 3

Dry each piece with a heat gun. Once they’re dry, you can add more colour, if you like! Repeat until you are happy with the colours.

Step 4

Once dry, spritz drips of water on to the background, then blot with a paper towel.

Step 5

Cut to size, then mat one of the backgrounds on to the silver mirror card. Adhere this to the card with the coloured border.

Step 6

Heat up your FOILPRESS and the foil the butterflies, swirls and sentiment on the remaining coloured cardstock. Arrange and adhere to your card as desired.

While this is a bit more of an advanced project, the overall effect is absolutely beautiful! We love the blues and purples of this card, but take a look at the other colours available in the Spectrum Noir Sparkle Liquid Glitter range for even more inspiration (just imagine it with pink!). We can’t wait to see what you come up with, so be sure to share your creations with us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #crafterscompanion.
