Christmas cutlery holder

Crafter's Companion – 30/11/19

This festive season, why not dress up your table with a bit more pizzazz? There’s nothing that makes a house more cosy than homemade items, so why not combine the two with these adorable Christmas cutlery holders? In the shape of little stockings, you can nestle your table cutlery inside and decorate the space a little more.

Try making this project even more Christmassy with festive fabrics and embellishments, like jingling bells, tiny tinsel or star-shaped sequins! The possibilities are truly endless and we can’t wait to see how you make this project personal!

You will need:

  • Two fat quarters
  • Interfacing
  • Ribbon or lace

Cutting instructions

  • Cut two interfacing panels
  • Cut two lining panels
  • Cut two outer panels
  • Use a 0.6cm (0.25″) allowance throughout the project

Step 1

Fuse the interfacing on the wrong side of the outer fabric panel.

Step 2

Place right sides together, then pin and sew around using a 0.25″ seam allowance.

Step 3

Pin the lining right sides together and sew the long back edge only. Press the seam open.

Step 4

Position the lace or ribbon decoration as desired on the top edge. Sew into position.

Step 5

With right sides together, continue to sew the remaining lining boot, leaving the top open.

Step 6

Place the lining into the outer boot and fold the top over to reveal the lace edge.

Step 7

Attach a bow and stitch through all the layers to secure the folded edge. Repeat at the back of the boot.
