Foam flower summer birthday invitation

Crafter's Companion – 05/02/20

Birthdays are the perfect time to get creative with papercrafts – not only for making birthday cards, but invitations too! It’s so lovely to create cards for other people, but take a bit of time to craft your very own invitations this year, using this project as inspiration.

This beautiful, summer-themed invitation features a 3D yellow lily that has been created with our Flower Forming Foam range, paired up with rustic kraft card for a stunning, vintage look. It’s the perfect combination to help you get your birthday off to a great start!

You will need:

Step 1

Cut a piece of kraft card to 6″ x 10″, and score the long side at 2 3/8″ and 7 3/8″. Fold and you will get a gatefold card where the sides don’t quite touch.

Step 2

To make the Y shape, cut from the top left down 2″ to the middle in a diagonal line. Then do the same from the top right down 2″ to the middle.

Step 3

Use the Border Die to cut yellow Centura Pearl and adhere along the edges of the Y shape.

Step 4

Glue the bottom of each side closed so that you can slide the invitation in without it going through the bottom.

Step 5

Cut a piece of yellow Centura Pearl to 2″ x 5″. Cut a piece of Sew Lovely paper to 1 7/8″ x 4 7/8″ and glue to the yellow Centure Pearl card. Wrap ribbon and string around this, and then glue to the front of your card, making sure you don’t glue the middle, as this will stick to the gatefold and you won’t be able to slip your invitation in and out.

Step 6

Cut three large and three medium petal layers from the Lily Die. Ink the edges with the Orange Water Reactive Inkpad, then place them on to your iron until they curl slightly. Fold together and twist the edges, rather than rolling the petals, then layer up the pieces and place the stamens through the middle. Glue the flower on to the front of your card.

Step 7

Use the Orange Inkpad to stamp the sentiments ‘you’re invited’ and ‘birthday’ on to two pieces of scrap kraft card. Cut out and use your bone folder to add some curve to the sentiments, then glue to your card.

Step 8

Use gems on the bottom left and bottom right to decorate.

Step 9

To create the invitation, cut a piece of white card to 4 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ and cut a piece of yellow card to 4 3/4 x 4 3/4″. Round all of the corners off and glue the yellow piece to the white piece. Punch a hole in the top and thread some ribbon through to create a pully.
