Minimalist marvellousness – Gemini Decorative Outline Topper Die inspiration

Crafter's Companion – 26/03/20

Minimalism is bang on trend at the minute and you can be a part of that with the gorgeous Gemini Decorative Outline Topper Dies! Similar to the Decorative Panel Dies, these sets feature outline designs with negative spaces, so you can add your own colour or extra material for even more pizzazz. We’re absolutely head over heels for them!

To help you get started with your new Decorative Outline Topper Dies, we thought we’d put together a post that’s filled with inspiration. Have a little read, take a look at the images and get those creative cogs turning!

If you wanted to switch up the type of material that you’re die-cutting, these Decorative Outline Topper Dies are the perfect excuse to try something new. Each of the dies in this range have been designed to work with the Crafter’s Companion Self Adhesive Sticker Sheets, so you can cut out your line image, then peel off the back to stick the piece down. Of course, these sheets can be used with other dies, but they work especially well with the Decorative Outline Topper Dies!

Once you’ve cut your sticker, you’ll be able to adhere the shape to almost any surface. This makes them ideal for sticking to acetate, vellum, glass, metal and so much more.

You could try your hand at taking the minimalism trend one step further and creating a piece of abstract artwork on your papercraft projects. We’re in love with the card above, which features the Ditsy Bloom Die against pink squares, filling the flowers with colour in such a creative way.

Use foam pads to elevate the coloured blocks and create a shadow beneath, just like you can see in the image, then adhere your die-cut over the top in a position you like. The effect is so beautiful and striking, and it would be perfect for cards or for a framed piece of home decor.

If you’re someone who prefers a subtle look, but something with a bit of texture, you’re going to love the card above. This make features a pale mint card front with a lovely print that you almost want to reach out and touch, paired with a pale mint die-cut. It’s a pretty and cohesive project, and it could work with any colourway!

We just love how the die-cut almost fades into the background, but the shadows around the edge of the shape lift it slightly. It’s just magical!

Not only can these dies do the subtle look – they can also be used for something a bit more bold and ‘out there’. In the card above, the Decorative Heart Die has been cut into both black and white card. These die-cuts have then been cut in half and adhered back together on the front of this card, which has created the most exquisite final look.

These dies are absolutely perfect for mosaic-style pieces, not just in the way that you see above, but also by filling the negatives with mismatching colour or offcuts. Try cutting the dies from several pieces of card, then using the leftover pieces from the negatives to fill the shapes. It would look unbelievably fabulous!

Add a little lift to your Decorative Outline Topper Die projects by having them positioned slightly off the page or card front, like you can see with the butterfly above. It has been adhered in such a way that the tops of the wings are above the top edge of the card. It has been filled with a piece of backing card, coloured with a fun watercolour effect!

This effect can be achieved with all of the dies – just cut your piece and adhere it to the top or side with a portion of the shape hanging over the edge slightly.

You can’t go wrong with a touch of metallic loveliness on any project, so pair up your Decorative Outline Topper Dies with metallic card, metallic markers and metallic ink. This will result in the most beautiful and eye-catching card, especially when paired with black like in the card above!
