Handmade with Love with Debby Robinson

Valentine’s Day is on the horizon and whether you’re a real cupid, sending cards out left, right and centre, or would rather just hunker down and wait for Spring – we know you all love craft! 

And you’re not alone, our lovely lot at Crafter’s TV are completely lovestruck by all things crafty.  So this month, as part of our Handmade with Love campaign we’re sitting down with our crafting family to get to know what they love the absolute most about craft! 

This week we’re finding out what makes the delightful Debby Robinson tick!

What do you love the most about crafting?

I LOVE everything about crafting – for me personally it’s not just a hobby or a career it’s a way of life.  Crafting brings me so much enjoyment from start to finish and I just love being creative. Once you have completed crafting your card or gift the feeling of satisfaction is so rewarding! And the best feeling in the world is seeing the recipient’s face when they receive their card or gift that has been handmade with love!

What crafting tool or product can’t you live without?

Where to start, there are too many to choose from! I definitely couldn’t live or craft without Gemini Machines – I’m sorry I chose more than one! Each machine has their particular use, time and place and I honestly couldn’t live without any of them as they make my crafting life so much easier.

Which launch have you loved the most in the last six months?

There are way too many as I simply LOVE all things Crafter’s Companion. I just ADORE our Sara Signature Collections though, so I am going with the latest one, which is Caring Thoughts. In this current climate we are all living in, this collection has some real true meaning behind it which, for me, makes it all the more heartfelt.

How and when did you first discover your love for crafting?

I have always been creative from a young age. As a child I loved to draw and sketch and then in my early teens I moved on to upcycling ,taking old clothes, altering and dying them. In those days I used a lot of dye and painstakingly sewed everything by hand as we couldn’t afford a sewing machine.

As a mum, I used to spend my evenings cross stitching, but the real love affair with craft began about 10 years ago. My Aunty Jean asked me to help her make some cards one Sunday afternoon for the hospice she was attending, before I left she had bought me two paper crafting kits. My love affair for all things paper crafting started that day and has led me to where I am today!

What makes a handmade card or gift so special?

A handmade card goes a long way, knowing that someone has taken the time to make you something special is always heartwarming. It is also a chance to show a loved one how much they mean to you.  A handmade card or gift is more meaningful to the person you are sending it to and, in my opinion they are just as attractive as any store bought card. They simply are unique and one of a kind as each one is handmade with lots of love. Gift giving is an important part of life and a handcrafted greeting card IS a gift.

Who did you give your last crafty creation to?

My niece Jade – I made a personalised Gift Box for her birthday present to go in. I am currently working on a new baby card for her as she is awaiting the arrival of her first born child who is due in a couple of weeks!!
