How to make a Christmas gift bag

Whether you’re gifting something extra special or bringing a bottle to a party – a handmade Christmas gift bag will always impress. Find out how to make a gift bag, ready to decorate for any occasion with our easy step-by-step guide.

We’ve used the Violet Studio Nutcracker Collection to decorate our Christmas gift bag but you can choose your own embellishments and colours to match your seasonal style!

You will need:

• Violet Studios Nutcracker Collection:
  • 12” x 12” Paper Pad
  • 6” x 6” Paper Pad
  • Assorted Card Toppers
  • Chipboard Stickers
  • Shaker Stickers
  • Painted Wooden Shapes
  • Ribbon Pack
  • Pom Poms
• Spectrum Noir ArtLiners: Black
• Collall All-Purpose Glue
• Collall Tacky Glue
• Red-Liner Tape: 6mm and 12mm width
• Foam Tape/Pads: 2mm and 3mm Depth
• Hot Glue Gun
• Scoreboard and scoring tool
• Scissors

Step-by-step instructions:

1. Cut a piece of patterned paper to 10” x 12”.
2. On the long edge, score at ½”, 2 ¼”, 6 ¼” and 8”.
3. Turn the cardstock 90° to the right and score at 1 ¾”.
4. Use scissors to cut upwards from the bottom edge along the score lines to where they cross the first horizontal score line.
5. Cut away the section in the very bottom left and cut two diagonal lines on the left long tab as shown.

6. Fold the gift bag together, applying red-liner tape to the flaps at the bottom and to the tab at the side.

7. Punch two holes in the top to thread ribbon through. Tie the ribbon in a bow and glue a pom pom into the centre.

8. Embellish the gift bag with your choice of stickers, shapes, pom poms and decorations.
