Tariff updates

Hi Crafters!

As you may know, following talks between US and Chinese officials over the weekend, an announcement was made that some of the tariffs imposed recently would be reduced for a period of 90 days from today, Wednesday 14th May. As a result, from today, when our US customers now add products to their baskets, they will see much lower tariffs being applied than they have done recently. 

So what has changed?

Some of the new rules on tariffs that were recently announced  by the US government have not changed and these must still be applied to products that are made in China, namely the removal of the de minimis duty-free rule. This means that, where previously items under $800

were not subject to any tariffs, they are now subject to two additional duty fees set by the US government that have been in place for a while, but only ever applied to items over $800 in value. The tariffs are a standard import duty rate and a US government section 301 tariff. These rates vary based on the type of product, so the tariffs you see at checkout will vary depending on the types of product you have in your basket. 

The new tariffs charged in addition have been dropped significantly for a period of 90 days and these are now at 30%. The 20% rate initially applied by the US government still applies and a new, much lower rate of 10%. 

Please rest assured that when you purchase from us you will be charged the correct tariffs applied by the US government and there will be no additional charges required when your order arrives in the US - that’s the job of the new software we’ve been provided with for the checkout on our website. 

While we are relieved to see a temporary drop in tariffs for our US customers we are very aware that this is a frequently changing situation. Please rest assured we are working very hard behind the scenes to look at ways to reduce the costs of purchasing your craft products from us if you are a US customer, and we have some great options in the works, which we’ll be looking to announce over the next few weeks.

As promised, we want to keep you updated with changes we’re making to help make it easier to shop on our website. We’re pleased to share we have:

• Lowered the prices on all of our digital products, which are tariff-free

• Created a ‘tariff-free’ category on our website which you can access directly from our homepage (see below) 

Products in the category will not have tariffs applied to them where the order value is under $800. Products not in this category are still subject to new US tariff charges. 

Remember: you’re looking for our blue ‘tariff-free’ tag - it’ll be visible on product pages just above the product name, and you’ll see it on product pictures if you’re shopping our website. To make it as easy as possible we’ve put them all in one category, which you click straight to right from our homepage.

You can add products from other categories to your basket, but if it’s something from a different category or you go over $800 you will see the required tariff charges applied when you checkout.

May 3rd 2025 

From Saturday the 3rd of May you’ll notice a new tax and tariffs line when you check out. 

This is to give you full visibility of the additional charges now required by US Government on certain orders.

Here’s what you need to know:

• You’ll still see your order total and shipping costs as normal.

• The new tariff line at checkout will show any duty costs applied to applicable items and shipping (after discounts).

• These tariffs are live and dynamic, meaning they’ll automatically reflect any updates in real time.

• There’s no change to how you place your order or how your items are delivered.

• And don’t worry - all discounts still apply, just as they always have.

We know it’s a bit of a shift, and we really appreciate your patience and support as we navigate this together.
